Quint over at AintitCoolNews.com had an in depth interview with Robert Kirkman concerning the upcoming television show, The Walking Dead on AMC. The interview revealed quite a bit of information regarding the production of the television show.
The first thing we learned was that Frank Darabont has been involved with The Walking Dead for the last five years. He was pushing for the project since the days of the NBC negotiations. According to the interview, Frank Darabont was really the driving force in getting the television show picked up.
Kirkman continues in the interview about his involvement with scripting duties as well as his hand in casting. He announced that he is one of the writers for the Pilot episode as well as (Thanks Spencer for the correction) the fourth episode. Kirkman explained how he is learning from the other writers on creating outlines that resemble tv outlines rather than comic based ones. He also reveals that he will be involved in future writing when (hopefully) the show goes into a second season. Kirkman also explained that he was asked about the casting of certain characters. He simply gave his input but never made any demands as he is a writer and not a judge of acting ability.
Kirkman went on to talk about the limitations that AMC has for the show. Gore and violence is of no concern for The Walking Dead. Kirkman basically said that anything you’ve seen on Breaking Bad can be done every minute (if wanted) on The Walking Dead. KNB has been doing make-up tests for the zombies as well as some special effect tests. (Bite test and head shot test) The one limitation that they have been given so far is that certain curse words will be a no-go. So, you can’t expect anyone dropping a F-Bomb anytime soon on the television show.
The rumor that Jeff Demunn will be playing Dale in the television show is confirmed by Kirkman in the interview. He goes on to joke that he will get a picture taken of himself wearing the infamous fisherman Hat.
