New Zombie Picture & Part 2 of AICN’s Set Visit!

Posted by Corey Anderson on Jun 22, 2010 in The Walking Dead News | 0 comments

Earlier today Ain’t It Cool News put up part one of two articles describing their time on the set of AMC’s The Walking Dead, also giving us a new picture of Lincoln as Grimes. In part one of the two-piece article; Quint, the reporter, gave us a pretty descriptive and heavily spoiled description of a scene with Andrew Lincoln, a gas station, and a young zombie girl. He [Quint] also told us about Lincoln’s passion for his character Rick Grimes and the pretty awesome camera work Darabont had set up for the scene that he [Quint] saw. You can read part one here.

Here is part 2/2 of the article and like Part 1, I’ll highlight the most interesting:

  • Talk wandered a bit, but I did ask some series questions… For instance, at what point will the series reach the prison? I expected maybe end of the first 6-episode season, but Darabont said the current plan is to reach the prison somewhere at the end of the second season. He really wants the first two seasons to be an on-the-road story.
  • He went on to say that he will be heavily involved in the series, but that right now the pilot is the only episode of Season One he’s directing. He did call overseeing the post on the show “a full time job” in and of itself. Don’t know who else is coming in to direct, but I know the person directing the second episode hails from Canada.
  • He also mentioned there will be a huge Walking Dead presence at Comic-Con this year. I suggested they do a zombie flash mob and I only got a sly smile in return, so we’ll see. There’s also going to be a Comic-Con exclusive poster illustrated by a very well known artist.
  • Frank compared his zombies to lions. After they eat they’re a little dopey, you can walk by them… but if they’re hungry you’re prey and they’re very dangerous.
  • That said, you’re not going to see 28 Days Later stuff here. Look at the cemetery zombie from NOTLD, that’s the top speed.
  • Sarah Wayne Callies, who is playing Rick’s wife Lori, came to set with her very cute and very large dog to watch the first zombie day. She hadn’t shot yet and seemed very squeamish about the zombies, a problem she admitted she needed to get over.

The rest of the set visit is completely and wonderfully laid out. Describing the scene from part 1 so much better and with a lot more detail. I really do like the talk of the prison too; settling any doubt, in my mind, that they’re going to rush through the comics in season one – seeing how it’s only a 6 episode season. I really do enjoy them keeping the story “on the road” also, this allows for newer and fresher story lines. All this mention of San Diego Comic-Con just gets me super excited for what goodies AMC plans to give us fans there; Darabont smiling at the suggestion of a “zombie flash mob” is also just too awesome. I bet the very well known arist is Tony Moore, original artist of The Walking Dead.

Comparing his zombies to lions is also a rather cool thing Darabont did. I completely agree with it too and confirming that they’re slow and nothing like in 28 Days/Weeks Later (Granted they’re not zombies to begin with, so I guess you could say 2004′s Dawn of the Dead remake). I recently watched the original Night Of The Living Dead because it’s been speculated that that was how the zombie’s  in The Walking Dead would move around and act. I’m completely satisfied with that comparison between Night Of The Living Dead and The Walking Dead. Also, like before, Ain’t It Cool News also got an exclusive production picture of The Walking Dead, with the first one being Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes in the scene at the gas station. Today with Part 2, they put up a picture of an awesome looking zombie, which appears to be in the same scene as Rick Grimes. Check it out below.
