According to HD-Report, an agreement with the satellite companies and Rainbow Media (owners of AMC) could not be reached to bring AMC HD to the satellite companies. This means that satellite consumers will be stuck with the Standard definition of The Walking dead if an agreement can not be reached by the time the show premieres in October.
In other provider news, AT&T and Rainbow Media were able to come to terms in an agreement to keep AMC, WE, and IFC on the provider’s network.

This will push more people to the ‘unpopular’ methods of obtaining the episodes, which will in turn have a negative effect on ratings. I am one of these people who have Dish and I’ll set my DVR to record the standard def (and promptly erase it) airing, but I’ll be grabbing an HD copy off the net.
It’s unfortunate too because this show has been pretty smooth sailing so far up to this point.
Yeah, it’s one unfortunate hiccup that has occurred that is a bit irksome. The only thing I can say is that maybe the standard def will lend a bit to the grittiness of the show? It is being shot in 16mm so the HD aspect may not play as big of a part in the final product.
