Well, this month we have seen magazine articles on The Walking Dead from Fangoria, Rue Morgue, and many other magazines. SFX’s online sample of their magazine actually has their coverage of The Walking Dead in it. There are two interesting pieces to pull from the article and that is the two interviews they did with Andrew Lincoln and Sarah Wayne Callies.
Andrew Lincoln was asked about how the show is dealing with Rick’s parenting skills in The Walking Dead. Specifically, Rick teaching Carl how to use a gun.
“We haven’t as yet reached that point. Our parental instincts are still very much intact. The protective nurturing instinct is still in effect. So we haven’t reached any strange compromises that I know the graphic novel reaches very quickly. We’ll have to deal with that. There was an attack the other night. At one point I looked at all the children that were on set and said, ‘Are you guys cool? Are you comfortable with all these things?’ They’ve got guardians there, and they all seem okay. There is always that responsibility, absolutely. But No-one has been compromised. Obviously we want it to be as real and as true to the tone of the books as we possibly can make it.”This has been a concern of parents over the traumatic situations that happen to the children in the comic book. At Comic Con, there was a mother who questioned Frank Darabont on how far the show will take a certain situation that deals with Carl. We can see from Andrew’s answer that the children actor’s welfare is indeed being closely monitored. Whether that will affect the story in anyway is to be seen.Sarah Wayne Callies comments how she had doubts on whether The Walking Dead would be made.
“[I thought] that it was absolutely ludicrous,” she said. “As an actor, it’s exciting to try something that’s such a risk.”
Sarah Wayne Callies also went on to comment on how every episode is different from the last.
“They’re almost in different genres from week to week. Some of them are very silent and quiet. Some of them are covered in zombies and some of them have almost none. It’s so exciting to be a part of something like that.”

It’ll kinda suck if Carl isn’t armed during a certain night attack. A cool moment in the comic, for sure. That’s ok. It’s television and there will be compromises. Plus, I’ll be too busy on the floor having convulsions during that scene to notice anyway.
