Clear Channel, an advertising company, has issued an apology for a Walking Dead billboard that was put up on the side of a funeral home in Durham County in the UK. “Emotions can be pretty raw when people are recently bereaved. Words like ‘death’ and ‘dead’ can be very difficult,” said Susan Jones, of the Willow Burn Hospice in nearby Lanchester, adding ”If you encounter this just as you are going to the funeral service to make arrangements for a loved one, it could be upsetting.” She went on to admit though, that while people of a certain age group may see the humor in the whole thing, Clear Channel could have shown a degree of insight and sensitivity.
Councillor Owen Temple, who represents Durham County, also admitted that some people may be amused by the billboard and that the reason that he never took any action to get the billboard taken down is because he never received any official complaints from the people of Durham County.
A spokesman for Clear Channel said that:
“Clear Channel apologizes for any offense caused by the unfortunate juxtaposition of this advertisement, which was certainly not intended. We arranged to have it removed right away and it has since come down.”
