Tvguide.com reported today that Lauren Cohen (“Supernatural”, “The Vampire Diaries”, “Chuck”) and Scott Wilson (In Cold Blood, Monster, Junebug) have been cast as Maggie And Hershel Greene who will presumably join up with Rick and the other survivors at Hershel’s farm.
In the comics, Hershel is a veterinarian who, after his wife died, decided to honor his fathers wishes by taking over the family farm, he is also described as cold and stern but warm at heart, he is also deeply religious and father to seven children (Maggie, Billy, Shawn, Lacey, Arnold, Rachel, and Susie). Regarding the Hershel character played by Scott Wilson, producer Gale Anne Hurd says that:
“He’s a veterinarian with a great sense of humanity and a very unique take on the Walkers. Not everyone in his family survives. Scott was chosen because of his tremendous scope and gravitas.”
Maggie is one of Hershel’s daughters who, after losing her brother Arnold and sister Lacey to the zombies, eventually fell in love with Glenn.

You’ve got Scott Wilson matched up with a photo of (comic) Otis. The casting of Maggie, Hershel and Otis looks killer to me. I think this season is going to kick ass. Lauren Cohan has spoken with a British accent for every part I’ve seen her in. She’ll probably have to suppress it for the show. That’ll be interesting.
Yeah, I noticed that. I didn’t make the pic though. I should’ve.
Hershel looks like a great match, not crazy about this woman as Maggie. I think she looks a little old.
I’m still very pissed about what they did with Andrea’s character. In the comics she’s a tough as nails girl in her early 20s. In the show she’s an emotional generic 40 year old woman. In the last ep of the show Andrea seemed appalled that the doctor would *gasp* shoot a zombie in the head!
Compare to Andrea in the comic when she gets her face cut by the psycho in the prison. Rick starts bashing the guy’s face in and Lori yells “No Rick, you’re gonna kill him!” while Andrea holds Lori back and yells “Yeah Rick, kill him!!” There’s no comparison, Frank Darabont did the show a big disservice by casting mostly actors he’s worked with in previous projects despite that fact that they don’t fit at all.
I agree with Booby about the part that Andrea is so bad ass in the book and not in the series, but other than that i love the series.
Theyve kinda taken it in a different direction which you’d expect. i love the addition of Merle and his brother.
Did any once else think the pile of zombies at camp came form Merle?? he loaded the van up and let them out for revenge.
Alos what u think theyre gonna do with Hershels tw youngest daughters(were they twins?). I think theylll already be dead before they catch up to them or theyll be completly written out, seeing how the never put the twins in. scenes like that are too much for TV. im guessing.
I personally think that Andrea is going to shape up here in this season. It would be very upsetting if she didn’t. I do remember that in an interview with Laurie Holden (the lady that plays Andrea) that her character is shaping up, and doesn’t plan on dying. Which I see as a good side, cause you are all right, her comic character is B.A.
Scott, it is interesting if we will find out what happened to Merle. However, I sincerely doubt that a man who just cut off his own hand, lassoed up a bunch of zombies, and transported them in a truck that has no separation from the front and back. What happened with him and the trucks is a wonder though.
I also hope that they do introduce the twins. I actually hope they introduce ALL of the Greene family. They would have to find a new way to kill the twins, but the impact that they would show with Hershel loosing most of his kids would be powerful. The chances are they wont, but one can only hope.
I completely agree with BobbySoFamous I am totally pissed off about andreas character and what they did with her and shane in Secrets ARRRRGHH!
